Atlas Valley & Sahara Desert Trek 5d/4n
The 5-Day Atlas Valley and Sahara Desert Trek offers the perfect blend for aspiring hikers. Starting in Imlil Valley, you’ll immerse yourself in the local lifestyle and venture into the Sahara Desert.
This medium-level hike combines two stunning valleys and three days crossing the Atlas Mountains to reach the desert. Along the way, you’ll explore lush valleys, impressive canyons, ancient Kasbahs, oases, and the breathtaking Sahara dunes.
The trek begins in Marrakech, taking you to the High Atlas Toubkal Massif. You’ll hike for two days from Imlil, then continue by jeep through Tizi-n-Tichka, passing the Caravan Road through Telouet Valley and Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, on to Ouarzazate and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. You’ll explore the Dades and Todra Canyons before reaching Merzouga and Morocco’s highest dunes. The return journey takes you through the Saghro Volcano Massif, the Draa Valley, and back to Ouarzazate before heading to the red city of Marrakech.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Marrakesh - Agersioual - Tizi Oudit (2200m) - Tizi Oussem (1850m):
Day 2: Tizi oussem (1850m) - Tizi Mezzik (2500m) - imlil (1740m)
Today offers an exciting climb out of the Azzadene Valley. You’ll begin by heading up towards Tamsoult, then continue your ascent towards the Tizi n Mzik pass (2489m), where you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch with spectacular views. Afterwards, you’ll descend back to Imlil, where you’ll spend the night at a cosy guesthouse. The day involves approximately 4-5 hours of walking, filled with beautiful landscapes and rewarding vistas.
Day 3: imlil - Tizi -n-Tichka - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley/Gorges
We’ll pick you up from your guesthouse and head from Imlil to Dades Gorges. Driving across the Tizi n Tichka pass, we’ll stop at the Berber village of Telouet before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, a stunning fortified village. After lunch in Ait Benhaddou or Ouarzazate, we’ll continue to Dades Valley and spend the night in a riad or hotel in Dades Gorges.
Day 4: Dades Gorges - Tenghir - Todra Gorges -- Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga
Day 5: back to Merzouga - Agdz - Ouarzazate –Marrakech trough Tizi-n-Tichka
